PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED IN GETTING HELP FOR A MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY WHO IS EXPERIENCING A PERSONAL CRISIS

Any member of the University Community (student, faculty, administrator, staff) who becomes aware of an individual who is struggling with a personal crisis should refer that individual to the appropriate resource on campus. Following is a list of resources and the types of situations to be referred to each.

- compulsive/uncontrollable behavior
- suicidal talk/behavior
- sexual problems
- self-esteem problems
- victim/perpetrator in rape/attempted rape situations
- other emotional concerns

Refer to Housing & Residence Life Office Swint 201, Ext. 2301

Individual is/has . . .

- roommate conflict or other relationship
problem with resident student
- housing concern
- judicial problems
- victim/perpetrator in rape/attempted rape situation involving resident student
- victim/perpetrator in physical abuse situation
- other situations that directly affect resident population

Individual is/has . . .

- spiritual concerns
- concerns that require pastoral counseling
- need to speak with anyone who is non-judgmental and able to offer a range of optional choices
-affected by a death in the family

Individual is/has . . .

- concerns about deciding a major
- questions on major/career options
- in need of assistance with resume/ interviewing
- interested in career testing
- questions on job search/information on business and industry
- concerns with time management
- questions on graduate schools/law schools

Individual is/has . . .


- identified as a drug abuser (drug also refers to alcohol)
- exemplifies excessive drinking patterns
- physically destructive to self, others, property
- interest in learning about drugs
- interested in his/her family regarding drug use
- interested in locating area resources on a drug issue

Individual is/has . . .

- victim of rape or physical abuse
- any type of medical problem or injury
- questions concerning health, including family planning and pregnancy
- contagious disease
- eating disorders

Emergencies occurring between the hours of 5 PM and 8:30 AM should be handled in the following way:

Emergency in residence hall -
Notify RA/AC who will notify Campus Safety & Security and the Director for Residence Life & Judicial Programs who will notify the V.P. for Student Affairs. Campus Safety & Security will notify the Health Center(if needed).


Mental Health Emergencies between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:30 am or on weekends can be referred to the Hillcrest Mental Health Help Line at 243-8887. Emergency mental health evaluations can be obtained at Hillcrest-OVMC by going through the EMSTAR Emergency Room.
