The West Virginia Department of Education's Office of Diversion and Transition Programs recognized Wheeling Jesuit University for the partnership between the Education Department and the Ronald C. Mulholland Juvenile Correctional Center (RMJC) in Wheeling.

Members of the administration for the Office of Diversion and Transition Programs presented President Mihalyo and Dr. Jane Neuenschwander with agency collaboration recognition plaques.

Dr. Neuenschwander and her students have contributed more than 1,000 hours of service over the course of five semesters since fall 2016. Students from WJU provide a "Book Club" program as well as tutoring services and hands-on activities to the students at the juvenile center.

At least six students from the University have committed an hour and a half of service every Wednesday during the fall and spring semesters.

Additionally, an E-Mission is currently being planned with WJU's Challenger Learning Center.

"I accept this award in honor of twenty, dedicated WJU students who have collectively given more than 1000 hours conducting learning activities with students at the juvenile detention center in Wheeling. The experiences have enriched all of us because we see how much we can learn from each other," said Dr. Neuenschwander, assistant professor of education.
