Why Your Support Matters

There are nearly 1,000 reasons to support Gaudiosa 2017, Wheeling Jesuit University's annual scholarship dinner on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

95% of students enrolled at Wheeling Jesuit, nearly 1,000 young men and women, receive scholarship support to attend WJU. Of this total, more than 30% come from families that live below the poverty line, which is $32,000 per year for a family of four. Scholarship support ensures that qualified young men and women can access a private, Jesuit education.

That is why we are asking for your support for Gaudiosa 2017. In just three years, $400,000 has been donated towards supporting student scholarships and Gaudiosa has become one of the most popular annual events in the Ohio Valley. Gaudiosa features an elegant, seated three-course dinner and entertainment by Wheeling Jesuit students, alumni, as well as an impressive line-up of exciting local performers and ensembles. Last year's Gaudiosa attracted 315 guests.

Your sponsorship of Gaudiosa 2017 will go directly to scholarships for students who have great potential, but need financial support. Together, we can help offer a high-quality education that prepares students to live out the WJU mission of life, leadership and service.

WJU has prepared me to leave school and face the outside world head on. Not only as a teacher, but as a woman for others. Unlike other campuses, Wheeling Jesuit really develops the whole person - someone who cares about the whole world around them. Students who attend WJU are not going to sit around and watch injustice, they will be the person to stand up for what they believe in and what is right.

Thanks to the financial support of our many donors, I was able to attend Wheeling Jesuit. Without the many scholarships I received, I would not have been able to attend this special place - a place that not only my parents attended, but several other members of my family.

When I was looking at colleges, I knew I wanted to attend a small, Catholic university where I could swim and be close to home. Wheeling Jesuit has made me feel at home and provided me with a grounding in the Jesuit education tradition. I'm grateful for the education I’ve received and the scholarship support. This has been a great experience for me and I know I’m am indebted to the many benefactors who provide gifts to allow students like me attend Wheeling Jesuit.

Wheeling Jesuit has been a part of my life since my sister attended. Seeing her really come into her own at WJU and having the chance to play soccer, convinced me to give it a shot. I see attending Wheeling Jesuit as an investment in myself, and the scholarships I have received lowered the ‘investment risk.’ The support I have received has made it more affordable for me and I’m less stressed about finances, allowing me to focus on my education. One thing I can say for certain, is that Wheeling Jesuit has introduced me to some amazing people and created a community that I hope to maintain long after I graduate.
