Maureen (Loftus) Hogel
Class of 1982
Executive Vice President/Chief Legal Counsel
Highmark, Inc.

Maureen Hogel was the first woman to serve as chief operating officer of Pittsburgh-based Duquesne Light Co. in the utility provider's 130-year history.

In August 2010, Hogel left Duquense Light to become executive vice president and chief legal officer for Highmark, Inc. in Pittsburgh.

Hogel spent more than 10 years with Duquense Light. She joined the company as an employment lawyer in 1996 and has logged a number of achievements since then, including having led the negotiations team that closed the $3 billion merger between Duquesne Light and the Australia-based Macquarie Consortium in 2007.

Following that merger, the COO position sat vacant until Hogel was elected by a board of directors to fill the role in late 2008.

Prior to becoming COO, Hogel moved up the ranks during her 12 years at Duquesne Light, serving in a number of roles including vice president of legal matters; vice president of development, legal and administrative affairs; senior vice president of human resources and administration; and senior vice president and chief legal and administrative officer.

Prior to leaving Dequense Light she managed a diverse, regional staff of nearly 1,000 union and non-union employees in operations, legal and environmental services, rates and regulatory affairs, governmental affairs, human resources/benefits, communications, community relations, residential/commercial/industrial customer services, facilities, and safety and workforce development.

She is a member of the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Mercy Foundation, the YMCA of Pittsburgh and Three Rivers Youth. With the YMCA, she serves as the 2nd vice president and chair of the planning committee.

In addition to her bachelor's degree from Wheeling Jesuit, Hogel has a juris doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
