The Cardinal Connection is Wheeling Jesuit's bi-weekly campus newspaper. The Cardinal Connection publishes articles with topics relating to news, mission and identity, sports, opinion, and arts and living. Writers utilize the newspaper as a forum for bringing awareness to both on-campus activities and national news that affects the university's community.
The student editors overseeing each section of the Cardinal Connection have the opportunity to learn editing software used by professionals in the industry. The newspaper offers students experience with which they can build their resumes. The Cardinal Connection also maintains an online archive of past issues.
"I think the most enjoyable thing about being an editor is the sheer number of variety in the issues that one needs to deal with on a regular basis. Everything from managing a meeting to editing the paper so that columns line up just right is usual. You really get to experience everything that Jesuit has to offer as well, because any interesting information comes through the editors at some point."

The Jewelweed, named after the Jewelweed plant or "Touch-Me-Not" whose seeds burst forth even upon the gentlest touch, is Wheeling Jesuit's annual fine arts magazine. Mediums that the Jewelweed staff accepts for submissions include: photography, poetry, prose, visual arts, and music. Students, faculty, and administration are all welcome to submit work.
Beyond collecting submissions, the Jewelweed staff, composed of student editors, designers, and writers, develops the project by editing content and creating the magazine's design. Members of the staff have the opportunity to build their portfolios and apply their creative skills to the project through utilizing editing and design software.
Every spring, prior to the Jewelweed's release, a chosen panel of judges votes on the best work in each category. Winners are awarded a $25 cash prize at the Jewelweed's release party, during which submitters are encouraged to present their work to an audience of their peers.
Those interested in learning more about the Jewelweed can follow the magazine on Facebook or contact the magazine's moderator, Professor John Whitehead, at email@example.com.
"Working on the Jewelweed has been a really unique experience because, not only has it opened my eyes to the wealth of creativity that my peers have, but I have been able to exercise my own artistic abilities by working on the design of the magazine and writing submissions for it. "
