About President's Welcome

Image of Debra TownsleyOn behalf of the entire University community, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to Wheeling Jesuit University - the only Catholic, Jesuit institution of higher learning in West Virginia.

Wheeling Jesuit is a special place. Since its founding in 1954, WJU and its dedicated faculty have focused on educating students - as our mission states - for life, leadership, and service. Our goal is to educate the whole person and, in doing so, to prepare our students for their life’s work so that they can leave their mark in industry, classrooms, medical centers, laboratories, or research centers. Perhaps most importantly, we instill in our graduates a desire to make a difference in the world - to investigate whothey want to be as much as what they want to be.

Wheeling Jesuit Universityis consistently ranked as one of America's top regional colleges by U.S. News & World Report and other publications. We are recognized as a national leader in undergraduate research, where undergraduates work side-by-side with faculty mentors on research projects and display their scholarly work during our annual, day-long Research Day and Scholarship Symposium. You will find that our students are examining topics that are contemporary and relevant in their disciplines. Engaged faculty teach students in small classes.

I hope you will visit our campus, talk with our faculty, meet our current students and see all that Wheeling Jesuit University has to offer. Our beautiful campus is in a safe community that is conducive for intellectual and personal development. We host hundreds of activities for students each year, from varsity and intramural sports, to fine and performing arts, to student clubs and organizations. It is truly a place where students can let their light shine.

Luceat lux vestra!
