1.0 PURPOSE

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and subsequent amendments and clarifications, states that "no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance..." This policy has been developed as part of and in support of Wheeling Jesuit University's commitment to remain in full compliance with all federal Title IX directives and against prohibited sexual discrimination in educational programs..

2.0 POLICY STATEMENT

2.1 Policy Statement

Pursuant to Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and 34 C.F.R. Part 106, Wheeling Jesuit University's Title IX Coordinator is the designated agent of the University with primary responsibility for coordinating University-wide Title IX efforts; this individual has a direct reporting line to the president of the University on Title IX matters. The Title IX Coordinator is supported by the Title IX Committee whose responsibilities include development, implementation, and adherence with meaningful efforts to comply with all Title IX requirements.

2.2 Title IX Coordinator

The University Senior Vice President functions as the Title IX Coordinator and Chairs the Title IX Committee. The duties of the Title IX Coordinator may be found in the relevant job description and within the Title IX Charter.

2.2 Title IX Committee

  1. The University has established a Title IX Committee comprised of individuals who have decision-making authority regarding Title IX development, implementation, and adherence within the departments which they represent. The senior Human Resource Administrator is a regular member of this Committee.
  2. The Title IX Policy, including the titles of the Committee representatives, the Committee and Coordinator roles and responsibilities, as well as the Committee and Coordinator operating procedures, is attached as a link to this policy.
  3. The Human Resource Department policies and procedures that are in support of Title IX may be found on the HR Website.
  4. The Human Resource Department is tasked with coordinating University-Wide awareness and training including training proposed by the Title IX Committee.

3.0 AUTHORIZATION

The Director of Human Resources, in conjunction with the Title IX Committee and the approval of the Title IX Coordinator, has the authority to change, modify, or approve changes to this policy at any time, with or without
