1.0 PURPOSE

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and subsequent amendments and clarifications, states that "no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance..." This policy has been developed as part of and in support of Wheeling Jesuit University's commitment to remain in full compliance with all federal Title IX directives and against prohibited sexual discrimination in educational programs.

2.0 POLICY STATEMENT

2.1 Policy Statement

Pursuant to Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and 34 C.F.R. Part 106, Wheeling Jesuit University's Title IX Committee is the designated agent of the University with primary responsibility for coordinating University-wide Title IX efforts. The Title IX Committee's responsibilities are critical to the development, implementation, and monitoring of meaningful efforts to comply with Title IX legislation, regulation, and case law.

2.2 Title IX Committee

  1. The University has established a Title IX Committee with individuals who have decision-making authority in the departments that they represent.
  2. The University Senior Vice President functions as the Title IX Coordinator and Chairs the Title IX Committee.
  3. The charter for the University-Wide Title IX Committee, including the titles of the Committee representatives, the Committee and Coordinator roles and responsibilities, as well as the Committee and Coordinator operating procedures, is attached as a link to this policy.
  4. Individual departments will develop specific policies and guidelines for implementing Title IX within their specific areas. The Human Resource Department policies and procedures that are in support of Title IX may be found on the HR Website.
  5. The Human Resource Department is tasked with coordinating University-Wide awareness and training
    including that proposed by the Title IX Committee.

3.0 AUTHORIZATION

The Director of Human Resources, in conjunction with the Title IX Committee and the approval of the Title IX Coordinator, has the authority to change, modify, or approve changes to this policy at any time, with or without notice, to remain in compliance with the Title IX Charter and changes or amendments to the applicable law.
